So, this is our second day in Guilin. Let me give you the highlights. Above is a whole fish as it was served to us our first afternoon in town. What do you do when your dinner is looking back at you? Besides...try taking that apart with chop sticks! This was a restaurant rated highly by the locals and safe for foreigners to eat. Robert and I are getting really good at eating with chopsticks...maybe that is the only part of us that looks Chinese:)

Today AlpacaRob (mild mannered geologist super hero as he says on his blog) finally got to see his Karst topography. We took a river cruise on the Li River (just like in your picture Jean!)followed by a bike tour on the back country roads outside of the city and got to see the villages and rice patty fields. Very eye opening to see how the majority in China live. Impoverished conditions by our standards. It struck me as we peddled these back roads that this very well could be the conditions that Esther was brought into this world.

The picture above is AlpacaRob and I at Elephant Hill Park in the city of Guilin. Can you picture the limestone rock entering the water as the elephant's trunk? The people believe this elephant is a symbol of prosperity and like to go to the park to receive these blessings.

The final picture is from our boat ride of the Li River. Honestly, I felt like I was first hand in a National Geographic movie. There were water buffalo entering the river, fishermen on bamboo flat boats using sticks to move along the river with cormorants tied to their boats to help catch the fish. The Karst mountains were breath taking. As you would round another bend in the river a new scene would appear with different limestone peaks jutting out in front of you. The boat shown in the picture is like the river bus for the locals and for the Chinese tourists. The one behind that is what the local families who fish live on...a primitive house boat of sorts. Our boat was the foreigner boat which is bigger (holds 100 people), serves lunch on the 4 hour ride, and, of course, charges foreigner prices:) What a day! AlpacaRob and I ended our day with a foot massage. A foot massage here means you only start at the foot and work your way up. My guy was able to tell me by the pressure points in my foot that I had issues on the right side of my neck. Pretty amazing since that is the area affected by the car accident I was in over a year ago. One hour massage for $12...it was great!!

Those are some great pictures! The Elephant Hill park was in the Big Bird in China movie. It told the story about the elephant. That's pretty cool that you got to see it in person. I'm looking forward to you next update. :) Christy
God's fingerprints are all over this! He so knew what He was doing sending you there and not me. Could you see me and Ron biking through rural China? No way! Glad to see you are having such a wonderful trip. You are continually in our prayers!
