Hey Alpaca Rob here again. Today a little bit about Nanning China, the new China meets the old. Today we did not have any paperwork to do, yeah! So, what do you do while waiting for your childs passport 6,000 miles away from home? Our guide took us to a park on the east of Nanning. It was a very nice and good sized park on top of a high ridge. To get to it we had to drive through the newer, fastly developing eastside of Nanning. The eastside of Nanning is the definite hub of new development. There were tons of new highrise apartment buildings being built with many tower cranes in view. Just so you get a perspective of this city, it is the capital of this Autonomous Region (Guangxi) and has over 3 million in Nanning proper and over 6 million in the "vicinity" of Nanning (a vicinity that includes the little village we visited Monday morning). The park we visited was a large and nicely developed park with a "fish pond" ( actually a good sized lake), some amusement activities, a buddist temple, and a nine story pagota which we climbed. The buddist temple was definitely "old China" the eastside was "new China". It was a cooler but still very humid day. Later in the afternoon we had another heavy rain, though this time (unlike yesterday) we did not have thunder and lightening. It cooled things off for our evening adventure sans guide where we (Melissa, Esther, myself and the other couple and their baby) trekked to the "old" Wal-Mart and then had dinner at a Chinese Pizza Hut. More on that at some later time. We made it there and back on our own and were non-the-worst for the adventure. Well, that's all for now, it's late evening Nanning time. Tomorrow we have the day off except we will meet with our guide to get our notary paperwork. Night all....
Traffic jam on the eastside
New development, a shopping mall with the new Wal-Mart
Buddist Temple complete with fake monks (there were real ones too)
Lotus flower desaturated (I have my Adobe Elements on the laptop)
Me and Esther ready to climb the pagota!
